The National Gallery was founded in 1824. To celebrate 200 years of bringing people and paintings together we have created a range of commemorative products inspired by the collection. The ‘1824’ used in our designs has been adapted from a printed date found on an early document in our archive. To this we have added bold colours, patterns, scrolling ribbons and banners to echo motifs from paintings depicting scenes of celebration, such as Bacchus and Ariadne by Titian, The Triumphs of Caesar by Mantegna and Cimabue’s Celebrated Madonna by Leighton.
