In 1893 Claude Monet bought a plot of land next to his house in Giverny, where he created a water garden ‘both for the pleasure of the eye and for the purpose of having subjects to paint’. He filled the pond with water lilies and built a bridge at one end, inspired by examples he had seen in Japanese prints. This water garden became the focus of Monet’s later career and the subject of some 250 paintings.
Alongside an overview of the artist’s life, Ross King considers the wider historical backdrop, Monet’s fascination with painting bridges and the personal tragedy that led to his desire to document a series of ever-changing moments in his garden.

Click & Collect is a free, next day delivery to store service. Orders will be available for collection from the Getty shop only (Opening Hours: Daily 10am – 5:45pm and Friday 10am – 8:45pm). Orders placed before 5pm will be ready for collection from 10am the next day. Orders placed after 5pm will be ready for collection from 2pm the next day.
Returns
If for any reason you’re not entirely satisfied with your order – we will gladly offer you a refund within 14 days of purchase upon receiving your return.
As our custom prints are made to your specifications, we cannot accept returns or cancellations once payment has been made. Pierced earrings or face coverings cannot be returned unless they are faulty, or we have made a mistake due to health & safety reasons.
